The Becky Chronicles

| Sep. 14th, 2005 11:21 pm Alas, the end of the Altoids Two years ago, Lyz and Landon gave me a monster tin of Cinnamon Altoids. Today, I put the last of them into the normal-sized tin in my purse. In the coming months, I will once again have to buy altoids.
But, to Lyzdon, thanks for the years of Altoids. 3 comments - Leave a comment

| May. 17th, 2005 11:40 pm There is one more reason to hate No Child Left Behind: a clause in no child left behind is requiring student information from schools to be turned over to military recruiters.
As if this "program" wasn't fucking up education in this country enough.
Oh...btw...this information comes from the 11 April issue of Newsweek, page 11.

| May. 12th, 2005 10:34 pm logic...or something I have a lot to say, but I'm going to leave it with a brief glimpse of the logic of my family.
My family moved out of our nice four bedroom, 80 year old home into a brand-new way too small town house. (It's a long story for another time.)
Anyway, they're so excited to have central air conditioning that they turned it on the other day when it was about 80 degrees outside.
The temperature outside today hit about 45 degrees. It's still on. Leave a comment

| May. 3rd, 2005 04:23 pm To Jacksonville--tomorrow. First, my family is moving...so, we're packing up the whole house...I hate moving. Moving was what sucked about college. I don't like it any more now.
So, I'm going to Jacksonville tomorrow. It's going to be fun to spend time with all of my sisters again. I miss them all so much. I can't wait to perform the secret end of year rituals...;o)
Anyway, I can't wait.
I cooked a marshmellow over the stove today. I hope that Pi Rho has a fire-type of thing so that we can roast some... 1 comment - Leave a comment

| Mar. 24th, 2005 02:03 am Welcome Jenna Jo! My cousin Joe and his wife Olivia had their second child yesterday: Jenna Jo Griffen weighs 7 pounds and 12 ounces; she is 21 inches long. She is totally adorable and looks very much like her older sister, 19 month old Joselyn.
However, it was discovered today during an exam by her doctor, that she does not appear to have a 'soft spot.' For those of you who are not familiar with babies, let me explain what this is. The 'soft spot' is the place on the baby's head where the skull has not fused together; this allows the brain room to grow as the baby develops. More tests are needed to determine the extent of the problem and the long term ramafications of it. However, please pray to whatever god, goddess, pantheon, fate or whatever else you believe in for this tiny little girl's good health. Current Mood: worried

| Mar. 3rd, 2005 04:39 pm 2 things... 1)Google "failure".
Amuse yourself (or not) with the results.
2) To acquire a car:
Mention to a nice person in a conversation that you don't have a car. She or He might have an extra one that she or he would be willing to let you use "for as long as you want."
Yeah, I know it dosen't sound all that great of an idea, but it seems to have worked for me. Current Mood: amused

| Feb. 10th, 2005 09:29 pm I've heard the tales of when the flu killed people. I've heard horror stories of polio, smallpox, scarlet fever. The measles, mumps, ruebella, whooping cough and chicken pox. Dangerous diseases of the past.
I thought the time when babies died of just getting sick was over.
It's not.
My cousin Joe's friend Amber just lost her 2 month old baby to RSV.
RSV is a viral infection; it's symptoms are those of the common cold. For more information on RSV, visit http://my.webmd.com/hw/raising_a_family/hw176519.asp. Current Mood: sad

| Feb. 5th, 2005 12:36 pm ...I guess this is just complaining... My mom is currently wearing a shirt which boldly states, "proud parent of a BBCHS student."
A BBCHS student. my sister. the pothead.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that my mother is proud of her accompolishments. After all, what's not to be proud of?
The fact is, I'm jealous of it. Not the pot-head part, but the proud parent part. I've never had to wonder if my mom was proud of me--I've always known that she wasn't. But it hurts to have it shoved in my face like that.
I mean, she would never wear anything like that when I was in High School. Or even college. I offered to get her a "MacMurray Mom" shirt. I think that was my sophomore (or maybe junior) year.
I finished school, got my degree, and there was nothing about pride. I got told, "you're going to start paying rent on March 1."
~
It just hurts. When I came home, I told them that I didn't feel like I belonged here and hadn't for some time. They acted affronted--like there was no reason for my feelings.
What can I say? Maybe they're right. Am I wrong to want my mother (and step-father, to a lesser extent) to be proud that I've... maybe... accompolished something.
Yeah, I know that they were young when I was growing up. Even when I was in high school...
I commented about her shirt. I said, "mom, you never wore anything like that for me." After asking if they made those shirts when I was in High School, she replied, "when you were in high school, we were young and poor."
Right.
I wonder how she'd explain college...
Too bad that I'm to much of a chicken to ask. Current Mood: disappointed

| Jan. 31st, 2005 05:13 pm Long time, no update... So, yeah, it's been a long long time since I've bothered to update.
As you can imagine, a lot has happened in that time.
1) I finished school in December. I now have a degree in English with minors in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Liberal Arts.
2) I still have no real job, though I'm busting my butt trying to find one.
3) I'm still dating Joel, though I haven't seen him since the Psi Phi reunion in September. He has also just informed me that I have "passed anti-joel on the enemy list." I have no idea as to what he's referring.
If anyone has any questions for me about my life, I'd be glad to answer them...
Oh, and thanks to Joel, David and Kenny, I did win that contest. Current Mood: gloomy

| Nov. 16th, 2004 04:11 pm RE: challenge It occured to me that I neglected to let you all know when the word list needs to be completed. My list is due to Dr. Jerry by Friday afternoon...That gives you all a few days to search your vocabularies.
Thanks again!! Leave a comment

| Nov. 16th, 2004 03:50 pm A Challenge...Help me, please. The faculty mentor of my dorm has issued a contest for the residents here. The challenge is to find as many words that can be made out of "Rutledge Hall" as possible. The following list contains the words that Joel and I (mostly Joel) have found. My friend Marian has over 200 words; currently, I have just over 100. I know that it is possible to beat Marian because another student has come up with words that Marian did not. I am posting this to ask for your help...Please comment back with any other words you find... Words much be at least three letters, and the longest word found so far has nine letters.

| Nov. 12th, 2004 06:54 pm So, after I went to bed last night, I remembered what else I was going to say. But, I decided that I was too lazy to get back up...
4.5) Alexis and I had a really good conversation at dinner the other night. We decided that Howie, another friend of ours, would make an wonderful contestant on "He's A Lady," the new reality show. The premise of the show is simple: masculine men compete to be the most lady like, the most believable woman.
So, Lex and I chose the things that would make Howie the most feminine: his bra size (C,) his heel height (3 inches,) his hairstyle (longer in front than in back,) his clothes (mostly very nice dresses,) ect. We thought it was great. Howie blushed from forehead to chest. All Sara could do was wrap her arms around him and say that she liked him as a man. But, GEEZ his bone structure is perfect for a woman!! (Though his shoulders might be a little too broad...Oh well, we could say that he's a swimmer.)
5) Yesterday, the student life people found that our suite room was open. So, we don't know what will happen, but I'm a little nervous about it. At least Teri was here and able to get our stuff out of there.
6) Teri's boyfriend Joe is coming this weekend. I don't know what is going to happen with that either. Since the room is closed now, there isn't anywhere for them to go... I really don't want to be witness to any of those coupley things...ya know...
7) Some classes are ok, others are more of a problem. But, I'll say more about that later. Current Mood: blank

| Nov. 11th, 2004 11:28 pm um...almost a week in review...kinda sorta Ok..it's been awhile since I've really updated. So, bear with me as I tell you how I feel about a lot of things...
1)The next President of the United States was elected November 2nd. Except he wasn't. The Electoral college meets December 3rd. A recount was requested in Ohio. Also, all overseas ballots will be accepted until tomorrow. I hate to say it, because I'd like it to be over, one way or the other, but this one isn't quite done yet.
2)My weekend last was awesome!! I got absolutely nothing done. Rodda was in town for the weekend, like every weekend...Friday night we sat up talking for much of the night. Jes, another Pi Rho, was here too. Jes and I decided that we wanted to go to Springfield to go to the mall and zoo on Saturday, we planned a whole day ahead, aren't you amazed?...Saturday we acutally did what we decided to do Friday.
It was realllyyy cool. Rodda and Teri decided to come too. So, we coerced Teri into driving in the convertible. It was great, a total top down day. So, we went to Springfield and went to the mall. I GOT NEW PANTS!!! They're very nice new pants. As I only had one pair of jeans, my wardrobe welcomes them very much. When we were ready to leave the mall, we had to find someone who could give us directions to the zoo. This is much harder than it should have been. But, eventually we did find someone--the information booth people. They even gave us a map, a bad map, but a map. Is a bad map better than no map? Anyway, we drove around for awhile trying to find the zoo. A long while. As none of us really had any clue where we were going, it was quite the adventure. We finally got there at 3:58. The zoo closed at 4:00.
Anyway, we had a lot of fun driving there anyway. We came back to Jacksonville, rented some movies and went to dinner at McDonald's. Then we came back to the dorm and watched two of the movies, Chasing Liberty and School of Rock. Then we got to talking about a frog and a pink dress; we decided to go to Wal-Mart in order to get a frog and the makings for a pink dress. When we came back to the dorm, we were joined by Amanda. We all watched Moulin Rouge and proceeded to make the frog a pink dress. After all, Dr. Stewart did need a frog in a pink dress for her pocket. Anyway, we were doing that and talking till about 4:30, at which time we all collapsed from exhaustion.
On Sunday, we didn't do much. There was a choir concert--it was ok. Benji made an incredibly odd noise during one of the songs...It turned out that he was supposed to. We all decided that Benji dosen't so much sing as he does croon...he arches his neck to odd angles. After that, we went to Steak 'n' Shake. I got the White Chocolate Holiday shake and it was amazing. We took the convertible to eat--we blasted fun music: Shania Twain's "I Feel Like a Woman," Martina McBride's "This One's For The Girls" and Kenny Chesney's "When The Sun Goes Down."
I realized that I had been out to eat five different times and got chicken at not one of them; I still had chicken twice that weekend. Go Mac dining hall, there's nothing like variety.
3) On Monday, I found out that the bitch in student life wants my sorority to go national. That is to say that she wants a national sorority to come to Mac and absorb Pi Rho. I'm not happy... for more ranting on this topic, look at Armeo's xanga site.
4)I had something I was going to say about today, but I don't remember what it was...Maybe I'll remember later. Current Mood: calm

| Nov. 4th, 2004 11:07 pm update on Pi Rho crap For those of you who read my post a few days ago about Pi Rho, this will be an update on that situation. for those of you who did not read that entry, this entry will make no sense.
On Tuesday, we had a meeting about the events of this weekend.
By the end of the meeting, I was ashamed and embarrassed to be in this group. But I'm the harsh and cynical one because I wanted to take decisive action by taking her out of office. However, the group did what it thought was in its best intrests.
I'm leaving in four weeks--I shouldn't care. Right? Current Mood: aggravated
